Sunflowers
📅 When to Plant
-
Inside: March to April
-
Outside: Late April to May (when it’s warm and no more frost)
🌱 Step-by-Step: Planting Your Sunflower
🌼 Starting Indoors (great if it’s still chilly outside):
-
Fill your pot with compost.
-
Poke a little hole in the soil with your finger (about 2cm deep).
-
Drop in one sunflower seed.
-
Cover it up and give it a gentle drink of water.
-
Put it on a sunny windowsill.
-
Watch it grow! (You might see shoots in 7–10 days!)
🌻 Planting Outside (once it’s warmer):
-
Pick a sunny, happy spot in the garden.
-
Dig a little hole and plant the seed just like before.
-
Give it a drink of water.
-
Make a sign with your name so you know it’s your sunflower!
🏡 Moving Outside (if you started indoors)
When your sunflower is as tall as a school ruler and it’s warm out:
-
Dig a hole in the garden.
-
Carefully take your plant out of the pot.
-
Plant it in the hole, pat the soil down, and water it.
🌿 Taking Care of Your Sunflower
💧 Water
-
Water your sunflower a little every day, especially when it's hot.
☀️ Sun
-
Sunflowers love the sun — make sure it’s in a bright place.
🎯 Support
-
Tie your sunflower to a stick or cane so it doesn’t fall over in the wind.
🧡 Talk to it!
-
Some kids say sunflowers grow better if you talk or sing to them. Give it a try!
⏳ When Will It Bloom?

Your sunflower will bloom in summer, around June to September.
